Getting to Datça, and around it

Datça is one of Muğla's most remote districts — however you arrive, the last leg is by road. Here are the flight, ferry and coach options with real distances, plus the village bus lines across the peninsula with links to their current timetables.

By air

Nearest airports

Dalaman Airport

~162 km · ~2.5 hrs

The closest airport to Datça, with domestic flights and heavy international traffic in summer. From there you continue by road via Marmaris — renting a car is the most practical option.

Milas-Bodrum Airport

~198 km · ~3 hrs

The second option. The road distance is slightly longer than from Dalaman, but in summer the Bodrum ferry can cut the total journey time.

By sea

The Bodrum – Datça ferry

Datça → Bodrum

Ferry · ~2 hrs
09:00 · 12:00 · 13:30 · 18:00

A seasonal car ferry. Departure times shift with the season and the weather, so book ahead and confirm with the operator.

Bodrum → Datça

Ferry · ~2 hrs
09:00 · 10:30 · 12:00 · 18:00

A seasonal car ferry. Departure times shift with the season and the weather, so book ahead and confirm with the operator.

The ferry leaves from Körmen (Karaköy) Port – Kairos Marina, not from Datça town. It is about 10 km out, and village bus line 9-8 runs that way. Do not confuse it with the boat tours departing from Datça Yacht Harbour.

By road

Bus and driving distances

Via Marmaris

~70 km · ~1 hr

Almost every road route to Datça passes through Marmaris. Regular minibuses and coaches run from Marmaris bus station. The road winds through the mountains with sea views on both sides.

From Muğla

~122 km · ~2 hrs

A direct road link from the provincial capital. Intercity coach passengers usually transfer at Muğla or Marmaris.

From Bodrum (by road)

~230 km · ~4 hrs

Very close as the crow flies, but the road has to loop around the gulf. In summer the ferry is a much faster alternative.

From İzmir

~331 km · ~5 hrs

The main route for those coming from the northern Aegean, running via Aydın, Muğla and Marmaris.

From İstanbul & Ankara

~11 / ~10 hrs

About 883 km from İstanbul and 695 km from Ankara. At these distances, flying to Dalaman and continuing by road is both faster and less tiring.

Around the peninsula

Village bus timetables

Services between Datça town and the villages are run by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality (MUTTAŞ). The times below come from each line's official page and change between the summer and winter schedules, so confirm before you set off.

Taxi stands

If you plan a late return from the villages, arrange the taxi before you go: the last bus leaves early and there are spots in the coves with no phone signal.

Emergency numbers and outages

Before you travel

Arriving in Datça is not the end of the road — the coves are 19–35 km from town. Planning to rent a car makes a real difference.

The Marmaris–Datça road is winding with narrow sections. Try not to drive it in the dark for the first time.

Ferry services are seasonal and weather-dependent. Check the current timetable before committing to a plan.

Bus and ferry tickets sell out early in July and August — book in advance.

The village buses make their last run early in the evening. Heading to Palamutbükü, Mesudiye or Knidos, plan the return as carefully as the outward trip.

Roads across the peninsula are narrow and winding — a car is safer than a scooter, and patience helps on the coastal stretches.
